Reia Watson is a student and artist from Cleveland, Ohio, she is currently based in St. Louis, Missouri. Reia studied Computer Science and Art at Washington University in St. Louis. Her work encompasses sculpture, performance, printing, and digital mediums. Reia began making at a young age, inspired by her grandmother and artist Elena Osterwalder. Much of Elena's work employs natural dyes and amate paper. Because of this, Reia frequently considers the sources and implications of her materials in the work she makes. Reia loves telling stories inspired by fears, femininity, and fantastical worlds. Her work is often characterized by elements of play, rigid linework, and earth tones. Reia makes many sculpture bodies that highlight human interaction such as books, puppets, costumes, and toys. Her practice continued in digital mediums as an intersection between her studies. This emerged through video games as a way of storytelling, and websites as a means for drawing
